Multi-Modal Transportation

The Gonzales, TX area offers quick access and proximity to road, rail, air, and marine transportation. Texas Gonzales and Northern Railway (TXGN) offers rail transport and shipping across Texas’ central heartland. Running between Harwood and Gonzales, TXGN interchanges with the Union Pacific Railroad to ship freight anywhere, including the three nearby ports. Roads

 I-10 is the fourth-longest Interstate in the United States and runs from the west coast of Santa Monica, California to the east coast of Jacksonville, Florida, covering the widest part of Texas. US 183 offers north-south 4-lane access, connecting both Austin to the north, and the TX coast to the south.

Located midway between Gonzales and Harwood off U.S. I-10, TXGN owns and/or manages 13 miles of main track between Harwood and Gonzales, and approximately 50 miles of storage and loop track. TXGN interchanges with the Union Pacific Railroad and handles several thousand rail cars carrying energy-related products, grain and animal feed meals, clay/bentonite, and raw and finished heavy metal products.

Airports

There are two large international airports within an hour of Gonzales County that handle flights domestically, internationally, and cargo. Houston, with the George Bush Intercontinental airport and the William P Hobby Airport, is approximately 150 miles away.

The largest international hub in Texas, the George Bush Intercontinental Airport is the 14th busiest airport in the United States and the 47th busiest in the world. It covers 10,000 acres, has five runways, and is a hub for nine of its 34 commercial airlines. The airport also serves 20 cargo carriers including Amazon Air, China Airlines Cargo, DHL Aviation, Cargoluz, AirBridgeCargo Airlines, FedEx Express and UPS Airlines.

Connected by rail to the Union Pacific and the TXGN, the port offers direct vessel-to-rail loading and unloading for convenient shipping and is approximately 2 hours’ drive on US highway 183.

Port of Houston (85 miles)

One of the largest ports in the world, the Port of Houston is the second busiest port in the US in terms of tonnage. Set on the Houston Ship Channel, this port operates at a depth of 50 feet and has multiple terminals. With a dedicated Union Pacific interchange, shipping freight to and from the port is easy, and the Port is a 3 hour drive down I-10.
