Gonzales Economic Development Corporation Unanimously Approves Matching Funds for Main Street Grants

March 12, 2021 (Gonzales, TX) – The City of Gonzales is excited to announce that the Gonzales Economic Development Corporation (GEDC) unanimously approved a matching grant in the amount of $50,000.00 for the City of Gonzales and Gonzales Main Street, approved by the Gonzales City Council on March 11, 2021.

In October 2020, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) awarded the City of Gonzales the Texas Community Development Block Grant (TxCDBG) in the amount of $500,000.00. The grant was approved in support of a Downtown Revitalization Project for the City of Gonzales, facilitated by Gonzales Main Street. The purpose of the project is to provide economic development activities in the form of new and refurbished sidewalks and street projects in the downtown area. The guidelines of the grant do require that a match of $50,000.00 be awarded to access the funds, which was approved by the GEDC.

Jennifer Kolbe, Director of the Gonzales Economic Development Corporation, provided the following comments: “Using economic development funds to leverage external money for infrastructure improvements is a win for the community. We look forward to seeing the project improve the downtown area to benefit our existing businesses and attract new investment to the Main Street District.”

The Gonzales Main Street District is one of three major areas of focus.
